Internal Doors: Unfinished, Primed & Pre-Finished
You want to make sure your new door looks perfect in your home which is why we offer various finishes, design and glazed options.
- Unfinished: No paint or lacquer. These doors can be fully customised. They require some additional work but offer you the most flexibility when choosing a new internal door. Unfinished doors are available across our range of interior doors, such as the Affinity Unfinished bifold door.
- Primed: Professionally primed and ready to be painted by you (Our Vision White Primed French door, for example). This removes some of the work and means you can simply choose which colour will best suit your new interior doors.
- Pre-finished: The most convenient style. Can be hung as soon as it arrives (Like our Affinity Fully Finished bifold door) Pre-finished doors are professionally finished, and don't need further treatment.
Bi-fold Doors: How Do They Work?
Our range of bifold doors has two separate methods of operation. The Repute Range has a bottom track whereas the Visions Range does not. Each door style has its own benefits. By not having a bottom track, there is a truly seamless connection from room to room. Your flooring can run from space to space without any interruptions.
A door with a bottom track means there will be a track fitted along your floor. The door is then pulled along the track when opening and closing. It does create a less seamless appearance; however, it will mean your door has greater stability and smoother movement. If you go for the bottom-tracked Repute, you can always opt to recess the sill and track into the floor for a near-flush join between each room.
There's no right or wrong choice when deciding on your door. It's all about finding the style and functionality that best suits your home.
What size is a standard internal door?
A standard internal door in the UK is usually 2ft 6 inches in width and 6ft 6 inches in height (762mm x 1981mm). However while this is the "standard", it's always best to check the specific measurements of your doors - especially if your home was built before 1980.
What does an internal door weigh?
The weight of doors used inside typically varies widely, depending on the materials it's made from. For example, a solid wood door will weigh more than a hollow core door.
On average, a hollow core door will weigh between 20 and 30 pounds. A solid core door will be much heavier, at 40 to 50 pounds.
How long does the average internal door last?
The average internal door will probably need to be replaced every 10-15 years. This is due to wear and tear as well as changes in temperature and humidity levels, which can cause the door to warp or swell.
How close to a corner can you put a door?
It is generally not recommended to put a door within 4 to 6 inches of a corner. This is because the door needs to be able to swing open without hitting the adjacent wall, and if it's too close to a corner it might not be able to do this.
How do I know if an internal door is load bearing?
If you're not 100% certain whether an internal door is load bearing or not, it's always best to consult a professional. However, there are some general guidelines you can follow. If the door is located in the middle of a wall then it is usually not load bearing, but if it is located at the end of a wall then it is likely to be load bearing.
Other clues as to whether or not a door is load bearing include :
- Whether or not there are any structural beams above the door
- If the door is located in a load bearing wall (usually an exterior wall), then it is likely to be load bearing
- If the door is located between two rooms, and one of those rooms is much larger than the other, then the door is probably load bearing.
What is a prehung door?
A prehung door is a door that is already attached to a frame. This makes installation much easier, as you do not have to cut or plane the door to fit the frame. Prehung doors also come with hinges, hardware, mortices, and space to install a doorhandle.
